Huilang sat down in the shallow edge of the lake with the water only coming up to the top of her stretched out legs. She took a deep breath, then let it out slowly. Today was very relaxing. It was good to try to enjoy yourself before really starting classes. This would be her first time, and she wasn't sure how it would go. From what other students had said, apparently it was stressful and always kept you busy. Huilang really hoped they were just exaggerating to just have something to talk about. Many people did that here, and she thought it was very strange to stretch the truth just to have something to discuss.
She glanced over, only to see a few more people deciding to join the fun. All they needed now was a bit of music and snacks, and they could have a big lakeside party. It would be the perfect thing to get to know everyone and make herself known on campus. It was better to make friends than enemies. She was hoping that today she could join a few social groups and find one that fit her best. Huilang had found out early that a group is something you must have in a school, otherwise you get tossed out as an outcast that no one talks to.
She returned her gaze to the water. Small fish had began to swim around her again. She watched as they would come close and swim away together. Every once and a while, one fish would dare to leave its group and swim closer for a better look, only to turn around and swim back to them. It seemed that even nature knew groups were better.

"You don't like the water?" Rumi asked, her gaze confused. "I think it's wonderful. But to each their own I guess."
Rumi walked back down the path towards the lake, leading ahead of the girl. But she still hoped she would follow. If she couldn't fish it would be nice to have someone to talk to and make friends. Her classes would be starting soon. She had already found a suitable teacher and their lessons were supposed to begin that week. She needed people to talk to to make sure she didn't get stressed.
As she approached the lake, she noticed the girl who had ran past them earlier gazing into its waters. "They're so pretty," she said, bending down beside her. "Even though they look pretty plain. I've caught nicer looking ones while on my father's boat," she stretched her arms out wide. "One was even this big. Makes you wonder what else could be down there... Ya know, if we could swim and breath underwater like them."

Claire followed the blonde haired girl back down to the lake... There wasn't any reason to stand around along... Even if she hated water, being around someone that was lively was better than being around no one at all. As the girl talked, Claire noticed a weird horned girl floating on top of the lake, looking at her surroundings without a care. Claire cringed at the thought of actually being in the water... If people were looking, they would've noticed an awful expression cross her face when the thought flowed through her mind.
"I don't really think it would be nice to do anything in the water..." Claire mumbled quietly. "I think it would be capital of it would all just freeze over." Claire had grown up with an utter hatred for the liquid substance of the ice that filled her homeland. Of course she would bathe in the stuff, but having fun it it was out of the question... People that practiced fire magic around her homeland would oftentimes suffer a quick death at the hands of an Aqualanche, or a sudden flood of water caused by the rapid melting of ice. It wasn't a fate that she particularly cared for...
"But one thing is right... The fish are quiet pretty." Claire smiled as she looked at their rainbow scaled reflect in the water. It was one thing that she actually admired about the creatures. Their ability to reflect light was amusing to the knight. "Wind's really nice today also." She said, turning to look at the girl in the face, "You sure act like you're in love with the water... Did you come from somewhere with a lot of it?"

Huilang turned her head and glanced up at the girl that was now leaning over her, blocking some of the sunlight.
"Yeah, they are kind of pretty I guess," she said, looking back down at the little fish. Their little scales did sparkle, but that was nothing compared to her own in her true form, not that this girl would know anything about that.
The girl exaggerated with her arms, at least it seemed that way. Huilang had never seen a fish much longer then the tip of her finger to her elbow. She didn't normally pay a whole bunch of attention to the creatures when she ran across the water. This girl almost sounded like she wished she was a fish. It was amazing how much people wish for something else when they already have something special.
Another girl followed after the first, this one much more quieter and just seemed to want to fit in with the small talk, but rather not be a part of it. She didn't address Huilang with a question, but instead, kept talking to her friend she had followed. The human species was so strange. Wanting to be a part of the action, but not wanting to draw attention to themselves.
Huilang stared down at the fish, not wanting to seem like she was eavesdropping into their little conversation. What to do now...She wasn't really sure. She could act like she was ignoring the two girls' conversation, but she could hear every word, especially with them standing right near her. Maybe she could head up to the school to look around while she dried off, or maybe find somewhere neat to just chill, or even check out where some of the other students were staying.
She looked back up to the two girls. "So, where are you ladies staying?"

Rumi nodded vigorously in response to Claire's question. "Oh yes, I grew up on the water. On my father's ship to be exact. We carry cargo all around the world... Well I used to too... I mean."
Rumi sighed. Maybe if she tried hard enough she could learn to be a carpenter and learn to build her own boat. Then she'd plop it down right in the middle of the school's lake and live in it. She chuckled a little to herself. The thought seemed a little funny to her. What good is a boat if you can't go anywhere. If it was just floating there, well then it was almost just like a house! A boat house!... Ha ha, how absurd.
"Well I live on the school grounds just like anyone else now," Rumi said to the other girl, the one with the interesting looking horn. "My student hut is right down that path there," she pointed in its direction. Then her face lit up. "Oh! Would you like to go there? I'll show you my shop. I just whipped up a new batch of charms to sell."

Opening his eyes Josh looked around, leaning against the trunk of a tree. I wonder were the library is, he thought as he lifted his eyes from the ground. Looking around Josh noticed a group of girls socializing, by the lakeside. "It's good to see the people here are nice," he muttered under his breath as he picked himself up off the tree. Lifting up his feet moving toward the girls, Josh wanted to find out for himself what the group was talking about, watching as one of them raised an arm and point off in a direction.
After getting about fifteen feet from the group, Josh stood under the shade of yet another tree near the path leading to the lakeside. Tilting his head to one side making it seem as not being nosy, he listened as the blonde haired girl explained about her hut and charms. Not noticing, Josh began to sink into the shadow of the trunk, falling backward hitting his head and knocking off his hood, Josh lay at the ground at the other end of the tree blinded by the sun in his eyes.
Quickly covering his eyes and pulling the hood over his head, Josh looked around seeing that many other students did indeed see him fall. After picking himself up and giving a reassuring wave to the views he was alright, he turned to see what the group he was eavesdropping on were doing only to see them staring at him. At that moment Josh wished he sunk back into the tree trunk.

Claire stared as the girl with the horn answered her question... She didn't mean to look naive, but the fact that the girl did have a horn was a bit, surprising. From the icy hills of her birth, Claire had only seen average-looking humans. Being exposed to the different races was something completely new to her. Since she has only been at the school for a few weeks, it's still very noticeable that she feels this way towards the different people. When she noticed that she was staring, she darted her eyes towards the ground... Best not to make any long term rivalries... Especially over something as silly as a horn.
"Sure, I'd like to see what the hut looks like... They've been having me sleep in the Library since I haven't been able to procure my own..." Claire said, her cheeks turning a bright shade of red. Her parents had yet to send her the funs required for her to set up her own 'hut' and she wasn't sure how much fortune any of the other students might have. As soon as she said this sentence, however, she heard something that sounded like a thud. Claire turned to see a boy getting up, he wasn't too far away from them, and she was almost sure that he had been in earshot the entire time. Her face gained a cross look as he started to move towards them. She had to bite her tongue in order not to say something cross.
